ABOUTSophie Thouvenin, interior architect

Founded by Sophie Thouvenin, Kardium Studio supports owners who wish to transform a place without erasing its identity.

An interior architect specialising in eco-design and trained in the renovation of historic buildings, Sophie observes the building before drawing. Its orientation, its moisture and its original materials show what is possible and what would damage the house.

An old building cannot be treated like a new one. Some solutions commonly used today prevent it from breathing and end up damaging it.

Every choice takes the comfort and health of the occupants into account. Materials are also chosen for the resources they consume.

Responsible renovation first preserves what can be preserved. When intervention is needed, Kardium Studio favours healthy, durable materials and works with local craftspeople who know the regional building traditions and techniques.

Kardium Studio thus designs comfortable interiors that respect the
building and are made to last.

My work is about considering aesthetics and well-being together, so that a place is as pleasant to live in as it is to look at.

Why Kardium Studio?

Kardium comes from kardía, Greek for heart. Cardium is also the name of a
family of shellfish, cockles, whose two closed shells form a
heart. A shell that protects what it shelters.
At Kardium Studio, this is the heart of the project: the home and those who live in it,
considered as a whole.
